D.D. Ford Construction was founded by Doug
Ford in Santa Barbara, California in 1979. After high school,
Doug attended California State Long Beach University, where
he majored in Industrial Arts with an emphasis in Fine Woodworking.
During his college years, Doug worked summers in the production
housing industry, and built furniture and cabinets during the
school year to offset college expenses. Doug received his B.A.
in Industrial Arts, and concurrently earned his Journeyman Carpenter
designation from the Carpenter's Trade Union. After graduating,
he decided to pursue his teaching credential with the intention
of teaching his newly learned craft. Doug then moved to Santa
Barbara to care for his grandmother and fulfill his student
teaching requirement at Santa Barbara Junior High School. After
a year of student teaching, he decided against teaching in the
classroom, and went to work for a local general contractor here
in town. Nine months later, Doug left to start D.D. Ford Construction.
Doug began his business career as a sole proprietor tradesman
in a cabinet shop in town. The first few years at D.D. Ford,
were primarily focused on building cabinets and furniture out
of a single car garage along with one other employee. |

His clients appreciated his craftsmanship
and attention to detail so much, they pursuaded him to take
on bigger projects. This customer demand was the stimulus to
obtain his general contractors license in 1980.
By 1990, ten employees were hired full-time to do various tasks
within the company, and steady growth prompted Doug to incorporate
the business in 1994. By May of 2003, the company outgrew their
former office, and relocated to its current location on the
corner of Garden and Gutierrez Street in downtown Santa Barbara.
D.D. Ford currently employs 70 people who provide a wide variety of construction services. These include new home construction, remodels, service and maintenance for recently completed homes, finish carpentry services and custom cabinetry to support the company's labor requirements. We also fullfill the finish carpentry needs of a select group of other general contractors in the area. |
